The Division for the Middle East, Africa and Intelligence Relations

The Division for the Middle East, Africa and Intelligence Relations coordinates the NSC's political and strategic planning for the Middle East, Africa and special ties.

 
 

The Division's Roles

  • Identifying and monitoring regional developments that require the input of the political echelon
  • Gathering political documents, analyzing proposals and alternatives pertaining to Israel's relations with countries in the region and Africaת
  • Transferring inter-ministerial work on matters under its responsibility by special requests and/or by internal decisions
  • Preparing discussions on these issues for the Ministerial Committee on the Security Cabinet
  • Supporting and assisting the head of the NSC as part of his duties as the Prime Minister's advisor for political affairs
  • Maintaining ongoing contact with diplomats and foreign guests and briefing them on matters of interest
  • Forging and developing diplomatic relations with countries with which Israel has no official ties
  • Leading the NSC's unofficial diplomatic relations

The Division's Activities

  • In the Palestinian arena: formulating policy recommendations vis-à-vis the Palestinian Authority, strategic policy regarding the West Bank, the political process and internal developments in the Palestinian arena, and ongoing monitoring and updating of policy at the strategic level in the Gaza Strip
  • Monitoring internal developments in Arab countries with a focus on those bordering Israel and analyzing their implications for Israel and formulating policy recommendations
  • Monitoring relations with the Middle East and Africa to present policy recommendations and alternatives to the political echelon
  • Preparing the documentation for all of the Prime Minister's and the head of the NSC's meetings, talks and visits with political officials from the Middle East and Africa
  • Directing, establishing and developing diplomatic relations with countries with which the State of Israel has no official relations, including managing the NSC's covert diplomatic relations
