Activities of the NSC
Since its establishment, the NSC has been involved in a wide range of issues related to national security, and operates in this field via its division, with each division engaged in its field of specialization.
Important issues handled by the NSC over the past two years may be disclosed, but numerous other issues dealt with by NSC personnel are classified and cannot be disclosed.

Until the summer of 2006, the Division for Social and Infrastructure Policy operated as part of the NSC. At the beginning of August 2006, the Division was transferred to the Prime Minister's Office. Following is a description of part of the Division's activities during the period it operated within the framework of the National Security Council.
Jerusalem Security Fence
Objectives:
To examine the significance of the construction of the obstacle in Jerusalem, and the implications – both security and civilian. The examination focused on consolidating recommendations that would enable closure of the fence, while preserving the fabric of life of residents entering the city and exiting it.
Activity initiators:
The former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and Minister Ehud Olmert.
Examination of the issue of the Jerusalem security fence was conducted during the first half of 2005, and the recommendations were approved by the Prime Minister and the Government.
The NSC continued to accompany implementation work headed by the Minister responsible for Jerusalem.
Bedouins in the Negev
Objectives:
Consolidating a plan that regulates and resolves the problems of the Bedouin population in the Negev, including settlement, urbanization processes, illegal construction, Islamic and Palestinian identity processes among the population, and more.
Activity execution and NSC recommendations:
Work was conducted during 2004 – 2005, and the Council's recommendations were submitted to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and to relevant Ministers. At the foundation of the recommendations is the understanding that an essential condition for the resolution of most of the problems of the Negev's Bedouin is the regulation of the issue of land. The NSC presented a set of new proposals and solutions related to this issue. A team responsible for examining the implementation of the Committee's recommendations was established.
Review of military service
Tal Law
The Division's work on the Tal Law consisted of preparing a proposal for the practical implementation of the law aimed at enlisting orthodox youths into the IDF. The Government resolution from December 2005 approved the recommendations. Responsibility for implementation of the Government resolution was placed on the Ministries of Defense and Welfare.
National Service Ivri Committee
The Ivri Committee consolidated recommendations for enlistment of youths that are not recruited into the IDF and / or National Service. The interim recommendations of the Committee were presented to the Prime Minister. The NSC is a permanent member of the Committee and coordinated its operations.
